OUR STORY
A place to breathe.
Million Memory Project Zimbabwe (MMPZ), is a private voluntary organisation (PVO) registered in August 2004 as a trust and upgraded its registration to PVO in 2017. The organisation was set up to respond to the needs of young people living with HIV with the ultimate goal of improving their well-being and ensuring that they live productive and fulfilling lives like any other child around them. The organisation is stratergically located at the Mpilo Opportunistic Infections Clinic (O.I.C) where it acquires direct contact with direct beneficiaries on ART registered with the facility.
However, In cogniscence of the fact that children and youths living with HIV need the support of other children around them, MMPZ has also opened up its activities to include other children and youth within the community from the five districts of the organisation’s coverage namely Magwegwe, Emakhandeni, Nkulumane, Luveve and Bulawayo North.
Using a three pronged approach i.e. targeting the individual (to equip and empower with knowledge and skills for survival), the family/ community (to support the disadvantaged children/youths ) and the institutions ( to offer friendly services) that come into contact with the children/ youth i.e. the schools clinics and churches , MMPZ has tried to facilitate a holistic Psychosocial support package.
The organization managed to acquire a piece of land in the high density suburb of Nkulumane. On this piece of land, the organization is in the process of creating a state of the art Challenge Course Center which will have both low and high rope activities for different groups within the community.
The site is strategically positioned in one of the hot spot areas of the city, and in that being so, will be able to attract young people and offer different psychosocial support and Sexual Reproductive Health Services in different forms. On the site, MMPZ wishes to build a youth clinic that will be offering SRHR information and services to adolescents and young people.
